Ghost 3 handover and servicing: an owner's checklist
Updated: 6 hours ago
Before your Ghost 3 fitting appointment ends, make sure you can use the system yourself and know how to prepare the vehicle for a garage visit. A demonstration should leave you confident about your own installation, its authorised driving routine and who to contact if you need help.
Autowatch describes owner briefing, documentation and service/valet mode as part of the Ghost III installation process.[1] Use the appointment to turn that briefing into a routine you understand.
This checklist concerns Ghost 3, also written as Ghost III. Earlier versions and different configurations may have different instructions. Use the guidance supplied for your own installation.
Practise the normal routine
Ask the installer to demonstrate normal authorisation, then practise it while they are there. Explain how the car is used: whether another household member drives it, whether it goes to a workplace valet and whether you rely on factory remote functions.
Ghost III can support different authorisation methods depending on the installation. Confirm which are actually configured on yours.[1] Do not assume that a phone app or tag is included because you have seen another owner's setup online.
Useful questions are:
What should I observe when the system has accepted authorisation?
Can each authorised driver demonstrate the routine confidently?
Which document applies to this fitted version?
Who should I contact if the car behaves differently from the demonstration?
Avoid comparing engine or gearbox behaviour with an unrelated vehicle. Autowatch's help guidance says vehicle compatibility must be checked by make, model and year.[2] Ask for the behaviour of your own installation to be explained.
Leave with the documents you need
Ask the installer to identify the user instructions, support details and any relevant installation certificate. Check that the vehicle and product details are correct. Keep sensitive security information private and separate from paperwork you routinely leave for a garage.
Where a TASSA certificate applies, remember that a registration or keeper change may require it to be updated.[3] Put a reminder alongside your other vehicle-administration tasks rather than assuming an old certificate always remains accurate.
It is also useful to make a short personal checklist of questions you still have. You do not need to record secret sequences in a general notes app or include them in a photograph of the handover pack.
Prepare before a service or valet visit
Service/valet mode provides a temporary handover arrangement without sharing your usual disarm sequence.[1] Learn the correct process for your installed version and confirm how normal protection is restored. Do this before the morning you are rushing to leave the car at a workshop.
Discuss the visit with your installer if you are unsure. Tell them whether the vehicle will be road-tested, kept overnight or transported, so they can advise on the appropriate owner procedure. Do not assume temporary service mode has the same security state as normal use.
Use these questions to organise the handover:
Have I followed the instructions for this installation?
Does the garage know how to contact me if there is a problem?
Do I understand any automatic exit behaviour for the configured mode?
Have I arranged to confirm normal protection after collection?
There is no need to pass your normal security sequence around a workshop. If someone requests it, pause and ask your installer how the vehicle should be handed over.
Treat a separate tracker as a separate system
If you also have a tracker, its workshop procedure may be different. Global Telemetrics states that activating its tracker service mode disables alerts for the selected period.[4] Do not assume changing the Ghost mode also changes the tracker, or that a setting with the same name has the same effect.
Check each fitted system's owner instructions and confirm what needs restoring after the appointment.
When you collect the vehicle
Follow the instructed process to restore normal protection, then confirm the usual authorised routine before leaving. If something is different, contact your installer with the symptoms and what work the garage performed. Avoid trial-and-error changes based on instructions for another vehicle.
For a fitting enquiry, send your registration and postcode through our Ghost immobiliser service page. Tell us about any existing tracker or other security equipment so we can discuss the installation and handover together.
