Fixed flange or swan neck?
Fixed flange
The towball bolts to a mounting plate beneath the bumper. Depending on the approved setup, a flange design can suit ball and pin hitches, bumper shields and certain cycle-carrier accessories. It is a practical option for many commercial vehicles, pickups and regular trailer users.
Fixed swan neck
The curved neck gives a less prominent appearance beneath the bumper. It can suit caravan towing and compatible towball-mounted cycle carriers. We check stabiliser clearance, parking sensors and the vehicle-specific fit rather than assuming every swan neck works with every vehicle.
Choose around what you tow.
Caravans and stabilisers
Tell us if your caravan uses an AL-KO stabiliser. We check the towball, coupling clearance and manufacturer requirements. A suitable swan neck or an approved AL-KO-compatible flange towball may be appropriate. The final choice depends on the vehicle and towing equipment.
Cycle carriers and accessories
We check the carrier, bikes and combined weight against the vehicle, towbar and carrier limits. Certain approved flange-mounted arrangements allow towing and carrying bikes together, but this must be confirmed for the actual equipment.
Trailers, vans and commercial use
A fixed flange can provide useful accessory choices for work vehicles. Ball and pin hitches and rear steps must be compatible with the complete installation. Your vehicle and towbar ratings set the permitted towing and noseweight limits; a towbar does not increase the vehicle’s capacity.
Prefer a removable towbar?
A detachable towbar lets you remove the neck when it is not needed. This can suit drivers who prefer a less visible installation or need to avoid a fixed towball in the parking sensors’ field. We can compare suitable fixed and detachable options before you book.
Electrics, coding and careful fitting.
Dedicated wiring
Vehicle-specific electrics are selected to suit your car or van. We discuss 7-pin or 13-pin requirements, including the lighting and any additional caravan circuits you need. The fitted kit and vehicle determine which towing functions are supported.
Coding where required
Some vehicle and wiring-kit combinations require coding; others do not. Where required, coding is included in your quote. We check the manufacturer’s fitting requirements, test the installation and explain the towing connections before handover.
